The daylight has long since faded, but deadlines loom and the drawings must be perfect, so you continue into the early hours, drawing in the dark. Finally it is over and the grades on your transcript are impressive, the letters after your name extensive. However these trinkets offer little comfort as you are forced from the controlled and the insular, into the chaotic and the complex.
My question is this: Why do we keep architecture students in the dark as to their role in today's construction industry?
I am a Chartered Architect based in London and this blog is an ongoing project where I talk about my experiences in the profession and observations about the construction industry as a whole.
